They turned down a R100 000 loan to boost their music career saying:“We want to do it by ourselves and prove it’s possible to make it in music without a deal”
[Durban Inanda, March 27, 2020 Friday] — Two young men—Lwazi ‘ULwaz’ Ngcobo from eNanda and Khulani ‘Makhula’ Blose from eNdwedwe who are 2 halves of a qgom duo Ulwaz noMakhula, are releasing their double singles called “Angsaboni” & “Wamnandi” via social media and radio this week and the “Angsaboni” music video is also ready for release.
They don’t only do qgom but Afro house as well and amapiano. When asked why they are so versatile and why not focus on one genre, Makhula answered that the music industry is always changing and they need to be on top of their game. ULwaz added that people have been appreciating the music but that it’s hard when you starting out because people you look up to don’t seem to care.
They shared a story about turning down a 100k deal because they felt losing control was going to make their hustle not worth the while and music has no limit to what you can spend before seeing dividends. They encourage the youth of South Africa to bet on their talents without dismissing school but balance the two and pointed out that music is an ultimate entrepreneurship tool if you are an indie artist.
ULwaz No Makhula are under Spliff Entertainment, a company they founded when they met at DUT whilst they were studying IT and became friends. You can enjoy their music from the links below.
