Welcome to LnM, today we going to touch on things you should avoid when starting out in your music life , we were guilty of this as well and somewhat not perfect but we want to help our followers and people who constantlycome back to stop doing this or at least improve. If you new here you might want to subscribe and look for a notification bell so you won’t miss a good how to info.
Saving hits for one day you make it
We know people like Zakwe , Tns , Duncan and other artists are famous for releasing a song they did on 2015 ,We don’t recommend that strategy because you cannot control it , 1stly you don’t know how people are going to feel about the songs you might be delay your success .2ndly nobody care until you make it, even the deal you seeking with that song wont reflect because executives and A&Rs don’t have numbers that shows how the song is doing because you haven’t released it and lastly you might be a one hit wonder if you do this analyze yourself.
2. Do diss tracks without a goal
Music is business if you going to make fool of yourselves in public you might as well get paid in the process. The music Vandals that are crazy about qgom music and those real hip hop cats get your priority straight if it’s doesn’t pay the bills its shouldn’t be so important .others will say they’re background is good ,then we will say consider your children background as well have some balance and avoid having your name dragged in the mud just for the fun of it ,this songs will always be around and once you record something you wouldn’t play for your future family then you need to delete it and get back on track.
3. Don’t back up files of the songs
Have your music in multiple storage devices and even online on the cloud that way you can be able to release music even when you have writers block and do remixes or even resell your work as you grow, Producer back up your kits and sounds, and artists should have their own external hard drive and always sign split sheet every time the new song is recorded just in case one party decides to release the song later as his own
4. Don’t like to pay for quality
When young artists and old artists overlook the quality we just know they still playing, in Durban we don’t have an engineer that we can count on when it comes to proper mastering, Duane sin is not bad but he can be better as well. That’s why ULwaz No Makhula uses Rogan Kelsey from Johannesburg he has proved himself countless times. Why artists don’t want to pay for this services , our assumption is they thing there is no huge difference but wonder why their music doesn’t get the love that we get .People listen and they can tell from good quality to average quality or no quality at all and I don’t even want to talk about radio stations. As an artist you are also half entrepreneur and you need to figure what’s is that as well or otherwise people who can’t rap or sing will do the work for you and pay you peanuts .You Have to invest in your music, in 2020 mastering is only 650 Rands .mixing can be done by a lot of producers locally so you don’t have to sweat.
5. They think dopeness is all that matters
I have artists who get surprised when I charge them for my beats, I respect them and they are dope but making beats takes time and they don’t push that much to create awareness that can lead to potential customers so being dope or talented is never enough. You need to raise your standards as an artist and improve your work ethic and pay people who helps you or you really don’t respect them .if you don’t push hard you cannot get a free beat and a free recording from me ,that waste of time you have to pay. If your dope songs are not well marketed or pushed and makes money they are useless that why is so important to replicate big artists and that why you need a job. This is it for today please add other mistakes artists makes on the comments we know we left a lot ,like signing bad deals but we haven’t experienced that one and we don’t have a close friend we can refer to that why we didn’t say it but we know it’s there and artists must get council before signing anything. This is LnM Show, we going to give you a bonus
6. They blow through gigs money
Few performances the artists get doesn’t improve their craft in fact it’s hurt it, because they take the money and don’t reinvest but buy alcohol for themselves and girls as well as fake friends. Starting out you not a baler especially when you still make less than 10k per gig you still not that valuable so your behavior as an artist should change ,you can get paid direct to an account and do yourself a favor leaving a card at home and try to have a love partner who supports you but not drain your funds ,this apply to female artists don’t have girl together right after your performance ,and as much as you can support at home if you don’t have other source of income for your music at home they should not see the money you just make .reinvest on your brand. It’s enjoyable to do music related things not all of them but most they show you the possibilities, Things like music videos and photo shoots and so on if you do it by yourself now .if you get lucky and get a deal you will be able to control your album or single budget because you will be familiar with this stuff .We hope we didn’t offend anyone by our facts our goal is for you to learn and change your ways for the better LnM we out
Lockdown has shown weakness in the city innovation and technology, and obviously behind in online experience of music and other sectors but today we will focus more on Music and more on other aspect of art and culture. Let’s us generalize and make you think of this idea ,why should South African Artists should sell music via intentional aggregators who are not working in the best interests of the African society but only on the wellbeing of America? Why network providers are not transparent and accessible for our ideas as upcoming artists and why all the IT students who also passionate about music do not create platforms to help the Province and the country benefits? Lastly why government isn’t encouraging what’sslikouronlife life is doing in Johannesburg so we can control our financial destiny as artists .All I’m seeing is us paying premiums every month and years to guys who want to take advantage of other because they see they’re lazy to do it themselves.
Call mWith the above questions ,we really don’t have platform to be heard as art and this alone piss me off to the point I’m relying on word press to voice my anger ,yet not only that’s I’m planning and working towards solving this issues. We need efficient online platforms ,where we can see RIO in a matter of a year and encourage our fans and supports to actually purchase our products in this places ,while getting mainstream media to advocate this channels like they do for platforms like iTunes and spotifies
I’m not against this platforms but the legal agreements we sign up for are too much have even fine prints that’s we as artists don’t need because we are not lawyers we are simply musicians .We want something as put my album online and its cost R100 and after one sale I can be able to cash that’s I know there are stories of taxes and are very important but for my blood to start rushing I need to see where my effort is going.
I guess I won’t do point form today, we saw artists like Zakwe using their connections and influence pushing artists online on face book platforms and YouTube, that’s is fine known and in the long run which is why we need coders to come forward not in the aim of making money only but to strive for a course, we need marketers to come as well and make South African based product mainstream. Tiktok are using artists music to push their platform which is good and knowing that’s this product is from china and china government back its startups and mostly its businesses is no brainer that’s South Africa should cut a pattern.
We not interested in models ,its doesn’t matter if the cat is black or white for as long its can catch the mice
Follow us on Twitter to get aticles as they come out
Music ,Painting ,Dancing , skating ,drama ,film and so on need to be protected as our IP intellectual Property we know this big companies has audience that’s we still need but we can still start our own thing from the scratch and for Coders and IT guys I’m sure you know now how this work ,you build something in order to fill a need ,so be different in your approach and cut most of time consuming part and make your innovation easy and most importantly learn the business side of things because if this becomes a reality Venture Capitalists will pop up everywhere with millions and want control on valuable startups with a vision and eventually wants control ,So this will only mean don’t build to sell because that’s strategy doesn’t work any way build to solve a problem and pay attention to what’s feature people uses the most on the product you put out and embrace that’s pivot and don’t stick to one version so much that’s you miss the whole picture or other players beat you to it. Check all the buy products, the incongruities and so on read books like innovation and entrepreneurship like peter Drucker and rework.
Kwazulu Natal Should lead in the production rather than what’s is happening now which is consuming and private businesses can intervene to make this possible, I don’t want to lie I don’t know anything about stocks yet but the moment we hear that’s south African based internet app or website is making an impact I will put my money there.
Ideas shouldn’t be money hungry too , see I get lot of emails from international brand wanting us to be their ambassadors using our talents that’s ok , The problems is us while pushing their products ,they want us to pay premiums ,so that’s simply a no ,if you build something make sure the ambassador get what’s they work for ,and if they have to be charged then it’s should be taken in the money that’s brand is supposed to pay him ,Same as this thing of royalties I know artists are not greedy ,while this aggregator wants money upfront ,the winning one is the one that’s takes a reasonable percent after the music sales. So that’s how I think it can be a win, win. Money is a fuel of a business but server and fast computers are the tools of an IT guy and they rely on people to test and complain if you put a premium from a get go you will have a problem .Unless there is a direct service on top of it and product.
We can learn from Mxit introducing moola for their messaging platform ,If you can build something with initial free credits and get people subscribing and hooked with good content in top of it that’s will be a winner .I can keep going but my point is clear now .Those who have money but love to take this challenge be my guest technology has evolve a lot from old days spoon and plate to now computers and coming Artificial Intelligence ,as well as VR Technology .I may add to that’s point to everyone reading that’s you don’t have to bet on this alone this Pandemic has shown that’s idea that’s may seem lame like partying alone at home as a terrible one ,but VR technology shows that’s if the experience I wanted was to see ULwaz No Makhula perform and ULwaz no Makhula wanted to perform for a crowd Black mirror TV series has demonstrated that’s its possible as well as VR technology .but we know there is more to this than that’s so any app that’s can serve that’s experience will do well in a market place .Thanks for checking unique ideas today from this LnM website please share maybe someone might be intrigued and do something.
In closing Vusi Thembekwayo has once said that’s government should make things accessible for businesses that’s has a growth mindset and don’t want to remain small. Tax clearances and infrastructure should be in place to improve our economy as a whole and efficiency in place. What’s he added is business people should think big and act accordingly so check out his videos on YouTube .I’m also guilty of the bad things we do mostly us black people, making the entire paperwork of a business to bid for one tender which is wrong cause its somehow shows the main focus is on money, chances are the math is not good and that’s is way dangerous than having a successful project and don’t see ROI. Thanks please follow us as ULwaz No Makhula on all social media.
Let’s me make a disclaimer , I’m not against USA based businesses and not against how they operate but putting a client 1st is my concern ,e.g. ITunes is too big now to maintain its operations without third parties ok but I was a member of one aggregator and I signed up with a fee ,when I wanted to cancel they asked for another fee why is that’s I asked and didn’t get a valid answer because they were taking premium on me and I was pas that’s aggregator since there was a new better one I want having this problem ,as a customer this did not sit well with me ,they had my card number which meant I was at their mercy .so things like notifying a customer about upcoming charges may be of help ,while others may try to dodge that’s but others will see a great anticipation and budget accordingly.
This is LnM and you probably wonder who are we to tackle this topic but someone has to do it right. Right now please bear with us this might make you or break you to new things. Comment with your disagreement and like if you are agree with us….
How people react when you perform or after?
Now we want to make yourself clear maybe you have connection to mainstream and it doesn’t matter if your music is good or not, this video might not be for you. This one is for people starting from the bottom .Take a minute and think how people interact with you when you perform or you the type like Malwazela was he has a way of silencing the crowd and sees them get crazy at the end. Or they keep silence one way or boo you, you know do a self check artist. And be careful you may be used to perform in a place when people are tipsy so don’t measure those .To be frank with you if you fail to entertain people not other artists or something like that even artists know bad thing when they hear it .this point is about self check if 3 of 10 were great performance and other 7 were bad you need to consider doing something else within the industry since we have many artists and few or no other departments that why we not striving in music
2 Does you producer like you more compare to other artist in your studio.
Here it’s pretty obvious that you good , most producers have a good taste and that why their producers of music , if you are an artist and your producer like you and doesn’t even ask you money for you to work together you might not be a terrible artist. NB though not all artists who record for free are good it can happen that both artist and producer don’t know how to do good music which can lead to a disaster. Not moving away from the topic if you being ill treated in studio by your studio mates and producer they might not get your style or you not a good artist so you might need to re-evaluate and maybe become a manager, camera guy admin or something within a studio or yourl hurt your other fellow rappers, gospel, or kwaito artists you working with people will judge everything by your only lame song so be mindful of yourself and shift to other thing.
Rating: 1 out of 5.
3 When you play your song people conceal their true reaction.
If I don’t tell you straight up if this song is dope and make noise around you, or I don’t pay attention to the story within a song and keep you quite .If your song is playing and we continue focus on other topic and we disregard your song. You might be guilty of not suppose to be a artist. So this episodes are not based on research its mostly general knowledge and our experience as we are the artists ourselves. In the next episodes we will try to be concrete with our numbers and be sophisticated because we see our audience is really challenging us. We will have stats like only 1 in 100 artists will be successful in a township because that how it’s going to be those are rough numbers but if you look at history if a musician from your hood succeed moves away and you see him once or twice a year in real life so help for upcoming artists is not there. If there is the old artists who signs them take most of their money and leave them struggling .So the stats will be confirming something like that. You can judge yourself honestly and decide if it’s worth continuing.
4 What’s have you done within the industry that fascinate everyone.
If you are good, you have stories and big stages you have performed in and so on. If your stories are not worth listening to and you busy name dropping for no reason you are trying to better yourself in a wrong way. Nowadays people are so mean I once said I produced certain artists and dropped big names as Dj Swing the guy popped up in my what’s app and needed a proof , luckily I provided it ,what’s if your story doesn’t have that you will lose your credibility and reputation. Build your reputation and let everyone know you in a good way .I have came across different artists that I never want to deal with ,you listening to this you don’t want to be like that don’t burn bridges ,don’t lie ,don’t be a Kruk and most of all don’t build your brand on top of a
Psychopathic behavior hear people say their love your craziness I wouldn’t recommend it because it’s going to be with you for the rest of your life and people with take you that way. Unless if it’s just your friends and there’s a limit. If you are not a terrible brand you will be able to be consistent which will be your long jovety and people will know when you around things happen the certain way, all performances can be bad but we waiting for you. Then your stories will add up and it’s a good life experience especially if it’s backed by goo compensation.
Never let success in your head , and failure in your heart
5 No one wants to book you for money.
Well this one is obvious ,You always in the open mic , you always in the street shows , you make your own bad shows , you cannot afford to dress nicely so people will respect y’all .everyone get paid except your squad ,you try to squeeze yourselves and you keep motivating each other to never give up cause you like this .Maybe you have a 9-5 which you invest a little in your music but nothing seems to get well those who assists you enjoys to take your money and you also not being real and keep your word which makes them resent you cause you don’t pay on time. Look we are not crushing anyone here but if you find yourself in this sentences rethink your music career .i know a guy who use to do diss tracks every time then he disappeared in the game although he had a following for what’s he was doing. The problem no one booked him, and no one took him serious so no money life gets hard. one day at Durban North I recognize him we talked and he told me what’s he was doing was childish and its didn’t take him anywhere he has a child to look after that why he was at work when I saw him…you can translate this story however you like but its shouldn’t take too long for you to make money with music. The Boy I’m working with Space Music he is going to sell a beat for R3000 he make amazing afro beats , he came close to me which is smart and I helped where I could , if you good I know I can help you make money ,most knows not much but that a sign you are destined for good things.
We have came to an end once more it is always nice to share with you guys and ladies hope no one got offended unless that will make him take proper action for the better. We will like to hear you out in the comments speak your mind and if we doing the right thing here press like as well as Subscribing buy doing that you will be encouraging us and showing us we are not terrible artists loll as we all know Bonus is the most important thing here on LnM show here you go.
6 You can learn to become a doper or a nice artist.
Its felt bad being on the negative side throughout the video so we want to encourage you if you don’t want to pivot cause quitting here in our show is not an option ,you can learn to master your craft better .So how do you do that its simple search here on youtube and try to learn or keep following us as we grow and you telling your friends about us at some point we will have to meet musicians one on one and consults wherever we can ,we know this videos are free but you can save some cash aside by the time we introduce courses and some products you will be ready .you have to invest in your craft to be able to stand out from the noise …Once again thank you for turning in we will see you on the next handpicked video don’t go away immense yourself cause your future depends on it bye…
