Whatever you are doing, who you doing it for?

Writing this articles is getting easier by the day. Once I open my word document I don’t close it without something of value for you to learn. Today’s topic is who you do it for? And the question I found on face book from a poet complaining that’s people don’t take his masterpieces seriously they don’t see the substance of his poems. I want to broaden this question to a bigger scale of everyday people. To parents we know then length we could go to take care and protect our kids and at the end of the day we lose objectivity of our actions and instead sacrifice all our lives for a cause that’s doesn’t show any result. I want to talk to musicians as well we no different from poets and the comment I agreed to about this topic do what’s ever you do for yourself 1st then the next person

Not having your day planned is a handicap.

take control
  1. Prioritizing family

We all know this one and it’s a pity I lost my kid before he was born, but I can tell you I was already protective of him. So what’s I would’ve done to prevent this from happening? nothing would be a wrong answer ,its what’s in doing now for the future that’s is ahead of me that’s will determine how birth of that’s kid will turns out along with the mother and of Couse health issues and anything above our power. But our lives shouldn’t be driven by this important things and lose ourselves in the process. We are the primary goals in life and anything we do should follow that’s sequence and if you are a kid reading this as soon as your eyes open see how you can better yourself ,because your mother and father are already old and they did all they could with you. If you constantly do things you don’t like just to impress your parents you will miss your mark in life and regrets not trying things that’s you really believed in. Always give your parents advice a thought and then picture the life that’s you want if its not in accordance politely decline but if your parents are your role model and they had done well for their lives do yourself a favor and take their advice and the comfort of support that’s will come with it.

Who you doing it for?

2. Fans and believers

I don’t know how fans ,have our best interest in their hearts but all I know is people I follow are already successful and if I can be successful as well then their mission would’ve come true. And the ultimate goal will meeting them one day and really explain to them what’s helped me to everything they teach and how people should receive the content cause I was once on the other side. I want to be successful for myself 1st then impress my mentors meaning all my guiding lights are the right ones. But as the follower of their content I cannot tell them what’s I need them to teach me because they know how syllabus go. Now artists and other creative makes a mistake of asking fans and believers what type of song they should release. Look when you started what’s you do you didn’t ask anyone and again after you had some supporters you didn’t try to quite because you saw that’s this works, why ask them now while you are already on the lead.

Let’s take a church example people come to church and agree to that’s belief, butwhat’s I see to some churches keep on trying to change and make people accept god over and over.

3. For the good of all

Some of us have ambitious missions in life and I have found mine recently. Others do it for human kind and other for a cause. While all this is good lot of things can side track you and you message get lost in translation ,it will be better though if most people have this  but nature didn’t build us like that’s and even in ancient history people were divided to categories and enjoys life differently and that’s still the thing. All I can suggest here have this cause if it can fulfill something that’s you angry about in a society or maybe overly passionate about. If for not this reasons once a third party come in to play on catastrophic event interfere you will give up , while if you have some sort of a drive you will overcome all the temptations and adversities.

Mr. Nelson Mandela former SA president is famous for not intervening to other countries politics, and that’s why he became a global icon he kept his views to himself and was not swayed by political analysts and reports. With that’s said you can see something that’s is meant to pull you out of your tracks and avoid it cause whatever you are doing is bigger than you even your ego should be kept silence.

People you follow on social media , makes the avarage of the people you spend you time with everyday.

4. I don’t know ,it’s what’s I’m supposed to do

You may be stuck in a life project that’s has no meaning. What’s define you? As a person, is it your spouse, your job or the things you have? Depending on the kind of live you want to live highly successful people they can’t even explain their job description.A person who practice law and have a real estate business can’t be a lawyer or both .So don’t try to be one thing in your life time at the same time don’t try to be everything .When dearth come people who are alive will forget the monthly plastic you use to provide every month if its stop coming. So playing a long game is important something that’s will outlive you. It’s may seems like I’m out of the subtitle but pay attention, I’m saying become duplicable and don’t be intrinsic on one thing. Here what’s I am supposed to do ,go to work and pay the bills and better my life by reading books ,start businesses and write this blog and do music and on and on. So my other answer you already know what’s you suppose to do , get a job or you already working spend time with your family like switch off the TV. Meetings shouldn’t happen when there are problems at home and gathering shouldn’t be funerals you the reader get your whole family together it’s your duty or save for it if you feel it’s going to cost. You know ideas about what’s should be happening in our lives sometimes manifests well when there is money so make it a priority that’s you try to get more than enough so you will be able to be a good influence in your life time , I’m also on that’s journey.

5. Do it for your piece of mind

If you could sleep well for the rest of your life doing, what’s you are doing would you take another thing that’s pays you well but more stressful? It’s depends, there are people who loves challenges in life and there are those who wants comfort. You can love both as well but life is more interesting if you immense on something and money needs responsibility and you not 100% comfortable if you need needs to balance checks and bank account .what’s tends to happen people spend all their money and start over every month. Personally I don’t like that’s strategy but people who are working in my culture say’s working body should be spoiled. And my answer to that’s I respond within is that’s, seeing work as a hard thing that’s after it you need to be spoilt is a first challenge. Secondly what’s if I gave those people money without working what’s could they do with it?

Having a piece of mind is also having a good mindset, I don’t want to lie it’s sometimes hard dealing with people who are different than you every day because they’re your neighbors, family members and maybe employees .You rarely see eye to eye even if you have a point .I’m not saying argue with them but spend less time with them so you will have your own piece of mind. So I have decided to put a bit of my life in this articles, today my uncle came back from clinic with my mother and I respect him so much. So there was a guys there with them and they called me and they ask this guy, is a serious mature handsome guy wears R20 sandals like this? I don’t know how to defend myself in situations like this but I’m in a mission and it’s a lockdown I really don’t have anyone to impress I’m just home minding my business and I view money different than them and they know it. This tends to make me happy because not having people paying attention to me for no reason rather than wearing expensive cloths is good. Cause that’s how envy starts and people begging to ask you for stuff , be careful this is LnM and thanks for reading I hope you took something out of today’s topic.

7 Points Checklists every upcoming artist should: Tick after the Show/ event

1 How did I perform today?

It’s important to rate yourself say out of 10, when below 5 is bad and above is great why this is important? So that you will see where you need to improve because if you do an average performance consistently promoters will notice and see that’s they don’t get return on their investment and stop inviting you to their shows. So you need to take responsibility of your performance, don’t make excuses like I performed after so and so that’s why or that’s was a gqom fans and I do hip hop, it’s really doesn’t matter if you did your best people would’ve interacted with you. So this is the 1st point you need to tick on your list. Just to add if you can do this to almost everything you do, you will see your performance will improve and most of the things you do will have a massive payoff.

I want to emphasize this , cause music artists make this mistake never take any performance for granted or want unnecessary special treatment in other events ,instead of doing what’s you came to do ,event come to a standstill because you are about to perform ,No please be organized and try to keep the party and fun going ,Lastly when you are starting to get paid for your gigs or becoming well known be human ,don’t make face at your deejay when he makes mistakes but help him out by filling the gaps ,I repeat don’t rush to perform and take your money and leave if you going to be a celebrity get used to having your life celebrated know there will be time for pictures with people and network but more about that’s on the following points

2. What’s Valuable contact did I make today?

Let’s assume as of reading this article you are a solo artist or a band but you don’t have a manager, who will pull strings for you or maybe there are acts you will see and like to work with , a photographer maybe see if you play your cards rights you can build the whole team along the way so take numbers and use them from social media , but in real life their more effective I might have said this before but we did a huge song with Shon G , we met once after a while wishing to work with him as he is a legend in KZN and my dream became a reality and bonus was seeing the guy making this song as his number 1 song. SO don’t be scared of talking to people most of them will be nice to you, use your past hustle to make them interested but please don’t make empty promises, that’s your reputation.

3. Who killed the crowd and how?

Tick the best performers, of the day and every time you attend even yourself if you did a great job that’s day. We not say copy their moves but energy wise, microphone techniques and how they approach a stage just take note more than turning to being a fan yourself. Maybe he has a Dj that’s do amazing things and maybe you don’t have a Dj and you always use your friend or something get professional and even help the Dj you use get paid because he is part of your crew, add dancers and all or eventually people will realize you are a fraud and stop booking you, so be real and treat yourself as such. Please while taking notes realize if your style is not like of someone mainstream too much like when you on stage instead of people appreciating your craft ,they might say things like ,you like so and so .That’s normally not a great compliment because that’s artist is outshining you. I know being an artist is being creative and others go overboard and do crazy things while on stage that’s fine if its compliments the songs and all but check if you not making fool of yourself and if there’s connection in what’s you do.

My Sanity comes from reading something new intensionally

4. Are you’re Lyrics and sing along catchy?

You are trying to get people to say something and it’s too complex and deep down fans are asking are you out of your mind we are not you loll , look I’m not discouraging here see Bhut Tizozo is a master of this all his verses really interact with a crowd so pay attention to people like that’s. And to have an advantage like other big artists make your song famous, don’t ask us how we have a small book out there on Amazon store check it out titled MUSIC INSIDER by ULwaz No Makhula its has all the contacts and we will update it soon because we are also planning to be heard on radio ASAP. SO back to the point, check if what’s you ask people to say is easy, and in what’s I have touched above the stage approach, if you can find a way to take fans by surprise in your performance and introduce yourself within your set without cutting off the sound and make that’s awkward moment that’s will be a big up.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

5. Did I leave any impression?

This one works well when there is media, but any attention and grand act you can do to be not forgotten after that’s event is important, just leave your mark and plan it if necessary its can be anything ,but nothing too controversial . E.g. if you sing a love song try to get a lady to join you on stage, move within the crowd if the microphone unless someone do that’s 1st or just kill a crowd the usual way you do. Making an example with Malwazela he’s not famous but when you put him on stage he leaves impression and that’s why it’s easy for me to remember him ,and Merel the guy never miss a bar and always uses his language isiZulu but anyone can feel his energy in KZN he is the best performer and he doesn’t force a thing ,he prepares well his sets are always on point.

6.  How do I actually look?

Dress code, very important groups have an advantage when it comes to this but you too can have a way to look and have it match your stage performance,if you perform crap dress accordingly loll  just kidding but serious dress to kill man and that’s will be your 1st impression ,ULwaz No Makhula it’s the only thing that’s usually make them stand out how they present themselves. We go to guys and pay for cloths with names written what we are pushing at the moment. In Hip hop some rappers can be dirty and that’s not how it’s supposed to be as an artist you should try by all means to look apart because you at work so treat it as such. Here what’s this does for you people take you seriously for us its came to the point where people knew we are charge for our performances because we invest so much in our brand ,clothes ,photo shoots ,music videos and 10000s  posts so people know this guys are working. So after every show look at yourself were you the artist you will be happy to meet and give a hug too or you were just a normal dirty person who can sing.

Example of lists

7. How long did I stay on stage?

Here in South Africa you not given much time on stage, in Durban particularly you don’t need much time because you can end up ruining your own performance unless it’s a one man show. Don’t over perform set a reasonable 10 to 15 minutes and do your thing , 2 tracks if there is a big lineup is enough and think for your fellow artists as well and I want to say this try to be open to other artists at least greet them ,you are a family not a competition necessarily you just happen to fight for the same bookings but features and all should be in place so ,not connecting with people is really a handicap everyone should work on in this internet age of social media and earphones, people make things happen for you so try to get along with them into a certain extent. So don’t waste other Dj time when they want to put their set ,bab uMjay from Eyadini call it umona when Deejays do this so please if you read our content please don’t disappoint us.

Well this is it for today you made a great investment and learning this things ,apart from stage fright you will be fine and this is our good byes see you tomorrow on LnM. Thank you.

5 Questions artists should ask themselves while hustling

Hi Welcome to another insightful episode of LnM , ULwaz No Makhula we might not both talk in some episodes but rest assure we approve together everything that we share to improve your music life and reinforce it to ourselves as well. Now What’s questions an artist should ask him/ herself in the road to success in music ,its depends on where you are already and your aspirations .Mostly we focus on beginners in this channel because we still growing as well .And we realized that what’s helped us get where we are today were questions we asked ourselves and others and applied the answers we got ,so today we want to give you some questions as well that will be valuable to your journey .The only thanks we need is your subscription to this channel as well as pressing a notification bell if you already did we appreciate it. Now here is Curiosity.

  • 1 Why am I attending this event?

We may have mentioned that we don’t perform for free in previous episodes but sometimes we show up in events unexpectedly why that is. A. to network with people in general ULwaz go out to music conferences and I know some other artists do that watch this videos and we happy you on the right path, but do you network? You need to get some contacts and actually follow up on those and do that feature or a beat for that artist learn from how he conducts his music and do what’s he does .Example I went to the street chillers by Dude at Voco Lounge town and Met Shon G as Dj Swing after years of wishing to work with this guy there he was and at this point we were both on the line up so he had to pay attention and worse part I played for him ,I offered him a beat and he gave me his number later on we talked I gave my best beat. Months later we had a Shine On Features Musiholiq Biggest song in Kzn and SA .Dude didn’t pay me the lineup was sick but back then I wasn’t working with Makhula that when we decided to stop attending shows that doesn’t help us. So before justifying your reason to waste your hard earned cash to go to a show ask yourself why. Maybe you have no one to meet and you not going to perform personally its either I’m a VIP or forget it but most importantly I earn for my time and talent.

  • 2 Why am I recording this song?

This point can hurt me as I am always selling beats but I don’t encourage artists to record songs that they don’t know how they going to get to people ,links doesn’t work anymore people have their sites they visit to download music and it’s very sad to say but even on the internet there are gate keepers now. I need to correct myself if  I say contradicting things on some other video I said internet has made the playing ground flat for everyone and there are no gate keepers well I meant that but what’s I’m saying now ,Websites like Fakaza has they’re system to see hot artists to put on as well as other major free music marketing platforms. so every artist need to get above the water   first then every time they release it will be like magic and ULwaz No Makhula has done it so keep watching our videos as we will share how we did it if we have not shared already. Getting back to the point ,are you recording this song to have something new you want to perform or the old song is fine , maybe you got a dope beat now you feel like jumping on it? Our advice if you not going to put everything aside just to push this song don’t record it ,push the existing one ,Pushing a song can take a minimum of 3 months to a year and do that as well when you are mainstream .Other artists are terrible business people they release a new song while they still have a hot song that they can capitalize with don’t be like that.

  • 3 Who should I look up too?

LnM should be your 1st option ,I don’t know how big this channel will grow but for business purposes I can openly leave my what’s app number 0840196532 .I can still manage to talk to a lot of people so greet me and get to the point then we will be fine. Look up to us and look up to other major artists preferably those who runs their own companies  like Rick Ross , 50 cent and many more .why this guys because they know ins and out of their business even if they have a team. Also signed artists like Beast from Afrotainment that guy was going to make it either way by how he worked there was no stopping him. He worked smarts and the guy did something that we can all replicate if you know you going to offend me on what’s app just don’t say anything and don’t respond on a status, Beast for me is that guy you know when we all hustling wanting some info to big artists and got their number by luck and we don’t even have manners and approach as an artist the best way to answer that is dismissing it. Unless you see you have a moment. Look up to business people why, your song is a product and never take it for granted just because you don’t know how to market and distribute this questions require you to take action so even right now you can close this video and go to watch an interview of an artist or business person you admire and as we know now Jayz is everyone favorite ill suggest you go back to old videos though not now because you will get lost.

  • 4 Do we share as same vision with my team?

This is a hard question that will set you back for years and you need to figure it out quickly since we have mentioned it here .This is the no1 task after this video. You may be the lazy one and guilty one then use this as your advantage and change fast and become a better team player. So how do you figure out you are running with a great team? At LnM we experienced this and as a team we still sometimes  don’t see eye to eye this happens even in business and if that happen its means you are really working because if there’s no work there is no fights ,what’s will you be fighting about? Nothing, this doesn’t means you have lost a vision. See when you and your team are not in a same vision here what’s happens 1. They don’t contribute financially if they do its not on time ,it can be electricity in studio or petrol in a member’s car they just want to work for free  apart from that they don’t want to do things professionally ,you suggest song mastering they say its fine ,you suggest some beat maker no he is expensive ok that fine ,the free stuff that they know serious artist does like registering at Samro they don’t do it for years and we don’t know why and there and there you see to this people music is really a hobby and little few people who knows them they think they’re famous all that illusion get them stuck in one place. Disclaimer our friends might see this or hear it please don’t be offended it’s meant for lecture not personal attack to anyone.

  • 5 Am I good at this?

Self awareness is more important than what’s people say ,yabo this one applies to everyday life are you good at your 9-5 can you do better ,why do I not get promoted and so on and so on. Questions makes a huge difference .Like who am I do this music for? Age, Gender and Geographic. Now internet show people who follows your work everything about them and I know guys who has a lot of female fans even by looking in their comment section but somehow they don’t know how to leverage that .ULwaz No Makhula has both but Dj Swing is strictly males and at 1st this didn’t sit well with me then later I realized I have an audience that all that matters ,Biggie Smalls once said do music for the ladies and their man will take them to his concert and ask them to buy cdz for them as well .Now if I have the bread winner rapped in my hand than I’m way ahead just kidding loll .But hope you get my point for as long as you have followers you good to go. But if you terrible at what’s you think you are doing then you need to pivot .I know a guy who had a studio but wasn’t good at producing he’s now amazing photographer and make a living and travel the world  his company is Fire spark .

You know we give out few 5 points and they take more than five minutes and that means our experience so far is valuable now LnMs go out there and get the answers of this questions we just posed for you. Follow us on all social media as ULwaz No Makhula and suggest to us on the comments if we should be LnM in social medias as well and second your opinion we will consider it. Thank you for watching lets us give you the last point that should stick to your heard Bonus.

  • 6 Should I stop doing music?

Maybe you are a Rapper / Dj / Beat Maker /Graphic designer /Producer /Photographer / Event organizer or Promoter anything music related. All I can say this is not a yes or no type of question. We all get to this point I want you to just anticipate it. I putted myself 10years run after 8 years of realizing I’ve been pushing music for so long and said by 2018 I’m stopping. Look now I was talking to myself disregarding my fans people who bought my t-shirts ,my other fellow artists and I even forgot that my father supported me and anyone has bought to the idea that I’m a musician and my artists understood but didn’t stop asking for beats loll .You see how I was so selfish well I didn’t see it that way because I had other things going on in my life and music came back to fill up a void that we all experience sometimes when we have nothing to do then turn my computer and make music even my girlfriend knew in fact that why she loved me in the 1st place loll now I’m going to stop this am I crazy. I had to rewire my thinking and try to make money out of my talent, hobby or career what’s ever you call it .its needed to add value in my life except entertaining my dopamine and ego .So Should I quite goes back to if I do then what’s is my purpose of living maybe you have other talents and maybe you have developed more love for your job and you see it replacing love for music or you realize you wasn’t good anyway which is the previous point. Ill add before we go ,fans are your customers if you do not serve one another I can say don’t prioritize them in your decision making ,as well as your family they will support you in what’s ever you will do they’re view is not rational is emotionally so do gauge with them as well. And lastly in general never listen to your heart when you take decisions always know heart has nothing to do with your feelings, it’s your mind and intuition and again do some calculations before deciding so you will be logical as well. Now you will ask how? E.g. numbers of hours you spend doing music since its doesn’t pay you do you consider that time a loss or maybe a investment then you can take appropriate action. Well this was a long one thanks for tuning in the next segment is as good if not better so thanks for watching the whole thing ,Goodbye.
