5 mistakes musicians make

Welcome to LnM, today we going to touch on things you should avoid when starting out in your music life , we were guilty of this as well and somewhat not perfect but we want to help our followers and people who constantly come back to stop doing this or at least improve. If you new here you might want to subscribe and look for a notification bell so you won’t miss a good how to info.

  1. Saving hits for one day you make it

We know people like Zakwe , Tns , Duncan and other artists are famous for releasing a song they did on 2015 ,We don’t recommend that strategy because you cannot control it , 1stly you don’t know how people are going to feel about the songs  you might be delay your success .2ndly nobody care until you make it, even the deal you seeking with that song wont reflect because executives and A&Rs don’t have numbers that shows how the song is doing because you haven’t released it and lastly you might be a one hit wonder if you do this analyze yourself.

2. Do diss tracks without a goal

Music is business if you going to make fool of yourselves in public you might as well get paid in the process. The music Vandals that are crazy about qgom music and those real hip hop cats get your priority straight if it’s doesn’t pay the bills its shouldn’t be so important .others will say they’re background is good ,then we will say  consider your children background as well have some balance and avoid having your name dragged in the mud just for the fun of it ,this songs will always be around and once you record something you wouldn’t play for your future family then you need to delete it and get back on track.

3. Don’t back up files of the songs

Have your music in multiple storage devices and even online on the cloud that way you can be able to release music even when you have writers block and do remixes or even resell your work as you grow, Producer back up your kits and sounds, and artists should have their own external hard drive and always sign split sheet every time the new song is recorded just in case one party decides to release the song later as his own

4. Don’t like to pay for quality

When young artists and old artists overlook the quality we just know they still playing, in Durban we don’t have an engineer that we can count on when it comes to proper mastering, Duane sin is not bad but he can be better as well. That’s why ULwaz No Makhula uses Rogan Kelsey from Johannesburg he has proved himself countless times. Why artists don’t want to pay for this services , our assumption is they thing there is no huge difference but wonder why their music doesn’t get the love that we get .People listen and they can tell from good quality to average quality or no quality at all and I don’t even want to talk about radio stations. As an artist you are also half entrepreneur and you need to figure what’s is that as well or otherwise people who can’t rap or sing will do the work for you and pay you peanuts .You Have to invest in your music, in 2020 mastering is only 650 Rands .mixing can be done by a lot of producers locally so you don’t have to sweat.

5. They think dopeness is all that matters

I have artists who get surprised when I charge them for my beats, I respect them and they are dope but making beats takes time and they don’t push that much to create awareness that can lead to potential customers so being dope or talented is never enough. You need to raise your standards as an artist and improve your work ethic and pay people who helps you or you really don’t respect them .if you don’t push hard you cannot get a free beat and a free recording from me ,that waste of time you have to pay. If your dope songs are not well marketed or pushed and makes money they are useless that why is so important to replicate big artists and that why you need a job. This is it for today please add other mistakes artists makes on the comments we know we left a lot ,like signing bad deals but we haven’t  experienced that one and we don’t have a close friend we can refer to that why we didn’t say it but we know it’s there and artists must get council before signing anything. This is LnM Show, we going to give you a bonus

6. They blow through gigs money

Few performances the artists get doesn’t improve their craft in fact it’s hurt it, because they take the money and don’t reinvest but buy alcohol for themselves and girls as well as fake friends. Starting out you not a baler especially when you still make less than 10k per gig you still not that valuable so your behavior as an artist should change  ,you can get paid direct to an account and do yourself a favor leaving a card at home and try to have a love partner who supports you but not drain your funds ,this apply to female artists don’t have girl together right after your performance  ,and as much as you can support at home if you don’t have other source of income for your music at home they should not see the money you just make .reinvest on your brand. It’s enjoyable to do music related things not all of them but most they show you the possibilities, Things like music videos and photo shoots and so on if you do it by yourself now .if you get lucky and get a deal you will be able to control your album or single budget because you will be familiar with this stuff .We hope we didn’t offend anyone by our facts our goal is for you to learn and change your ways for the better LnM we out

We always here for any particular topic music related to help you maneuver your stumbling blocks as you move forward to your career and we hope it’s a career not a hobby. • 1 If you have a dope beat you won’t experience writers block.

You cannot, I repeat you cannot play a dope beat and don’t vibe with it or sing along like you watching TV no, if I send you a beat play it in a place where you can jot out some flows and ideas. When we did Wamnandi and other songs the person writes the moment he get a beat while it’s still hot and after that switch off the beat till you hit the studio and hear it fresh again. Don’t play a beat over and over again while chilling you really messing it up. That a simple strategy and before we get to the next point go down and comment how you fight this bad thing of loosing inspiration? We will interact with you and do a follow up videos on this topic.

  • 2 Picture yourself in a stage performing.

This might be the best strategy to do a hit let alone writing a song…this what’s we usually do, although this happens by mistake but we manage to pick it up. Makhula will say in stage we will be moving like this , then while I’m watching a move idea will pop up and maybe say hey that a snake dance the way you move hands back and fourth . Depending on a beat we vibing to we can say snake dance over and over adding some lyrics .You just have to embrace your creativity.

3 Don’t write every day.

Depending on a genre you don’t want to write every day, make yourself miss writing to a point when you pick up a pen it’s just flows because you just came from experiencing life. Here is another key as artists we tend to don’t know our target market, like who we do music for and why they love it which makes us fall to a trap of ever changing industry and make us want to follow the hot thing, there is nothing wrong with that. What’s we have done we focused on what’s can make people dance its can be Kwaito, House, Amapiano you name it above 100bmp tempo. But as some of you know I come from hip hop space some of you don’t know this but there is real hip hop out there that can make you dance not just move your heard or dab but we couldn’t go there because of two much complexity for SA general audience that why we have kept our style light and easy to consume but this point I’m trying to tell artists figure your

4 Have a source of inspiration.

When we all start we have a natural eager to keep writing but that end up dissipating and we need some boost to write. I remember I started by writing stories that worked infact it can still work I just saw that the way I putted them its was lame and that time Kasi rap needed real creativity. I learnt to do Kasi Rap then I learn to write in syllables which 80% of artists cant because its requires lot of practice and understanding of how words can rhyme without closing at a certain point but catch a fan of guard the way you hold breadth and with this skill alone I always kill a crowd and that made me feel good but I didn’t make money so I had to stop for more about that check out our other video called why artists don’t make money. It’s not that they cannot write but yourl see why and tell us if you disagree cause we trying to have a open discussion here loll we not ainstan of music or Edison of it we regular soon to be superstar musicians who are fascinated by industry as a whole. Back to the point, watch a movie to get inspired you don’t have to finish it , read a dope book finish it ,look at your favorite artist and tell yourself in a positive way I want to be in that position then switch off all that and take a pen and write .Avoid listening to much of the music you are doing get inspired not influenced that way you will be original.

  • 5 Don’t write create songs.

What’s do we mean listen if you really want to be a big artist you need to be able to do this , Abdu’s creates Punch lines he doesn’t use or modify others like most artists do , Makhula has that too he is so original that I asked him how do you get this flows of yours cause in Kwaito  many replicate Mampintsha and even though its not something that is talked about its really hurts the industry , English rappers copy Nasty c or someone from USA .so if you create from the scratch people will get used to your scratch and actually supports you until you have your mini you’s as well loll. You guys are so amazing the feedback we are getting ever since we started this content we like to take this time and say thank you. I see others want us to come to their shows and ask us how much we charge for a event before this episode end we going to leave our manager number Nkule please strictly music related business..or send us an email at ulwaznomakhula@gmail.com… Now lets give you that bonus shall we?

  • 6 Don’t give up.

In fact in everything you trying to do don’t give up that easily and say you will try tomorrow that will be your bad habit and its will kill your career , get away from friends and any distructions and try to avoid writing at the studio you waste everybodys time.Once you told yourself you will write get to it , Makhula find it easy to write as this genre is all he knows but sometimes he had those days where I need to chip in and help. In  Most cases ULwaz has the problem of writing now lets me make some other point for me its not that I ddnt write but its trusting what’s I have wrote that was a real challenge when I started qgom but my friends encouraged me and I was always on the second verse because of that , So you need that encouragement as well from your producer or your  group because this is for all your best interest and if   someone bites a mainstream artist tell him / her to stop because you will all look like fraud.

Once again thanks for tuning in we will see you on the next article. As we have putted it for you ,or go to write that song and thank us later . #LnM we out…
